Trentino is a land of sports and sportspeople, both in summer and winter. It is a meeting place for great champions, famous teams and sports fans.
In the summer months, Trentino is home to numerous
football teams who come here for the clean air and green meadows to train and to pump new energy into their legs in view of the upcoming championship season. Among these, Inter, Bayern Monaco, Napoli and Fiorentina stand out. Furthermore, two important federations train in Trentino and namely the main men's basketball and volleyball national teams, in Folgaria and Cavalese respectively.
As for the world of cycling, there are events galore, such as the Giro d'Italia that has stages in Trentino every year. But this famous race to win the coveted pink jersey is not the only cycling event in Trentino. In 2013, the province will also be the setting for the first 2 stages of the Tour de Pologne, as well as for the traditional Giro del Trentino, at its 37th edition in 2013, for the Leggendaria Charly Gaul race and for Trofeo Melinda. For MTB, we move to Val di Sole where, starting from the 2008 World Championships, a few stages of the MTB World CUP are hosted every year.
Lake Garda is the ideal location for water sports events of international prestige: in 2013, for example, it will host the Optimist World Championship. Trentino also hosts athletics meetings, above all the Palio della Quercia, sport-climbing events such as the Rock Master, numerous marathons such as the International Lake Garda Marathon, in addition to the Fisherman's Friend StrongmanRun, "the toughest race of all time".
These, as well as many others, are the events to look out for in the summertime, ranging from road cycling to sports climbing, from rafting to MTB, etc...
In winter, Alpine skiing and Nordic skiing are the
prime sports. Great champions are a constant presence in Trentino, both for the racing events they take part in and for their training activity. Just consider the Italian and Norwegian national teams' training bases in Trentino and the return of the 3Tre in Madonna di Campiglio, a historic stage of the Alpine Ski World Cup.
As for Nordic skiing, the Cermis slope hosts the spectacular Tour de Ski ascent, and in 2013 Val di Fiemme will also host the Nordic World Ski Championships.
The FISG (Italian Ice Sports Federation) has a long-standing partnership with Trentino as its skaters have been training for years in the ice stadium in Piné.
A unique event to look out for is Wrooom - an international meeting with the Ferrari and Ducati pilots that turn Madonna di Campiglio red for an entire week with the racing team's colours.
These are only the major events, but numerous other winter sports events take place in Trentino, from alpine skiing to Nordic skiing, from snowboarding to ice-skating, from ice-climbing to ski touring, etc...
For twelve months a year, our mountains, lakes and state-of-the-art facilities host highly acclaimed events, teams and athletes but tourists can also enjoy the same benefits by practising these sports at various levels.
Every year Madonna di Campiglio turns red, the Ducati and Ferrari colour, when it hosts WROOOM, the"F1 & MotoGp International Press Ski Meeting".
Since summer 2010 the first team of the Bavarian footoball club, whose President is the famous Franz Beckenbauer, has been training in Trentino.
On 9 December 2010 in Milan the partnership between F.C: Internazionale and Trentino was signed. Pinzolo is the summer training headquarter of the champions of Inter football club.
Great expectations for this year's two stages, on 25 May with arrival in Pampeago (Val di Fiemme) and on 26 May with start in Caldes (Val di Sole)
The emotions of the pink race
After thirty-five years, the Gardeccia basin, in the heart of the Fassa Dolomites, has again played a leading role in the Giro with the 15th stage of the competition.
Once again, the Giro d'Italia will be making its appearance in Trentino, for the seventeenth Brunico-Pejo Terme stage and the eighteenth Levico Terme-Brescia stage on 26th and 27th May respectively.
Trentino volleyball: a history of champions, victories, of the best audience in Italy and of a strong tie to the homeland.
During the summers of 2012-2013-2014, the Italian National Basketball Team will be in Trentino for training, courses and sports events, as Trentino will be top sponsor of the Italian Basketball Federation until 2014.
Alex Lund Svindal and team-members have chosen Trentino, and specifically the Altopiano della Paganella, as their official training base.
