Summer
A gentle mountain landscape, alternating 2000 metre plus peaks and rolling Alpine pastures, mountain dairies and woods
Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna are the main towns in this area, three distinct communities featuring a wealth of centuries-old unique Alpine traditions. The local dialect of Luserna, still spoken today, is Cimbrian, an Old German language attesting the German-Cimbrian colonization of the area between the 10th and 13th centuries. The Magnifica Comunità di Folgaria (Magnificent Commonwealth of Folgaria) holds the historical legacy of the autonomy tradition featured by these rural communities, while Lavarone represents the numerous villages scattered on the plateau with the same name around the crystal-clear lake.
The landscape here is also dotted with the remains of fortifications, trenches and communication passages from the World War I; visitors should not miss the museum of the only surviving fort, the Belvedere-Gschwendt Fort.
The plateaus are an excellent training ground for outdoor sport enthusiasts.
Visitors can take their pick from a line-up that includes walks and hikes, on foot, horseback or by mountain-bike, sports climbing, free flying and archery. The
Nordic Walking Park features 17 tracks, totalling 104 km, over the 105 square km of the area. Professional sport competitions include the mountain-bike cross-country race "100 km dei Forti", the Lavarone Olympic Triathlon, the Gran Bike event at Folgaria and the Folgaria Megabike race.
