The Tour of the Alps 2024

A race in the heart of the Alps featuring the strongest international cyclists

The Tour of the Alps - TotA is back from 15 to 19 April 2024, a cycling race held over 5 stages and 709,3 km along the roads of the Euregio Tyrol, Alto-Adige and Trentino.

The Tour of the Alps 2024 will set out from Alto Adige, with two days in Tyrol and the grand finale in Trentino, among the Valsugana mountains. One brand-new feature in this edition will be the Strada dei Baiti: an extremely challenging climb of the Vetriolo Pass in Valsugana, which has never been tried before (in professional cycling). It will be one of the decisive stretches of this fourth stage, which is sure to significantly impact the chances of those aiming for overall victory.

The Tour of the Alps is considered to be perfect preparation for the Giro d'Italia, which takes place shortly after from 4 to 26 May 2024, and also passes through Trentino, with the arrival of the sixteenth stage Sabbio Chiese - Mount Bondone and the departure of the seventeenth stage Pergine Valsugana – Caorle the following day.

The history of the tour

The Tour of the Alps is a race that’s grown in beauty and prestige over the course of its 46 editions. Until 2016, the race was called the Tour of Trentino, but following this edition, it was decided to make the race more extensive and inclusive by adding new stages and routes in Alto-Adige and across the Alps in Tyrol, and so the event become a cross-border race.

Situated in the heart of the Alps, the 3 areas of Tyrol, Alto-Adige and Trentino together form one Euregio with a shared identity and values, including sporting traditions. It was as a result of this shared vision and approach to cycling that the Tour of the Alps was established, which features many tough climbs, significant height gains but at moderate altitudes, short distances and transfers reduced to a minimum.

Plus there is also the beauty of the region, with alpine landscapes serving as a backdrop for the race, which passes from cool mountain pastures to bustling residential areas. So, whether you enjoy it from your sofa or the roadside, the Tour of the Alps is an event not to be missed!
