A unique museum-workshop has made Depero's dream project come true.

The Futurist House of the Arts Casa d'Arte Futurista Fortunato Depero is the third branch of Mart (after Trento and Rovereto) and will be opened, after thorough refurbishment, in January 2009, in time for the Futurism centenary celebrations. This is not just a museum, but also a workshop that has made Depero's 1919 dream project finally come true, after the partial attempt made in 1959 with the establishment of the Galleria Museo Fortunato Depero, the year before the artist's death. Besides a room exhibiting the large cloth patchwork, which is the highlight of the Museum and the most precious single item of the entire Depero collection, the displays focus primarily on the artworks created in two distinct periods: 1917-1918, which was a period of intense and extraordinary creativity for young Depero, who had recently come into contact with the international milieu revolving around Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, and 1928-1930, the so-called New York Period.
This is a unique example, in Italy, of a Futurist museum conceived by a Futurist. The collection includes some 3,000 exhibits bequeathed by the artist to the city: paintings, drawings, cloth and buxus patchwork, collages, posters, furniture, toys and applied artworks, and provides an excellent overview of and insight into the whole Italian Futurist movement.
The reopening of this museum has completed a museum route through the historic centre of Rovereto, which includes other important attractions such as the War Museum and the Museo Civico, enabling visitors to follow a trail that combines history and innovation, the starting - or finishing - point of which is Mario Botta's Mart.
