An immaculate beacon that towers above the gardens of the Upper Garda

Monte Stivo is found to the east of Lake Garda and has become a must for snowshoe enthusiasts with its rather challenging trail that overlooks the great blue lake.
From December to March, visitors can climb up to 2059 m, to the top of this isolated peak in the heart of southern Trentino to enjoy a truly unforgettable view.
The climb to reach this veritable natural tower on Lake Garda presents no particular worries. However, it is a rather challenging excursion that requires a spot of good weather as well as settled snow conditions. The welcoming Rifugio P. Marchetti stands at 2012 m - just 5 minutes away from the peak - and is there to sweep away all your doubts and uncertainties. It is open every weekend and provides a safe trail from the parking lot to the peak.

Park your car near Albergo Santa Barbara at 1175 m and take the summer itinerary (signposted trail no. 608 b) to Malga Stivo at 1748. At this point, keep going until you reach the refuge.
At the beginning, you will cross a number of meadows, before coming across a wooded area. The path will then take you to an open section at 1480 m in "Le Prese".
Here, you can take the steeper, but more direct route on the wide, south-western crest directly to the peak.
The view opens up from here to embrace the lake in its entirety. By now, the remaining climb is just a pure formality, as it curves slightly towards the crest on the south-west before continuing north towards the refuge and the peak of Monte Stivo. Take a break at the refuge to savour the breathtaking landscape here, which includes the Lake, the Dolomites, the Po River Valley and the glaciers.
