This ascent from the town of Trento up to Bondone has made cycling history and represents one of the toughest challenges of all, even for champions.
The difficulty soon makes itself felt, straight after the turning off the Gardesana state road on to the provincial road no. 85. Cyclists should make sure they’re in good physical condition before attempting this hill.
Also called the “City Alp”, Monte Bondone has for generations been a great favourite with the inhabitants of Trento and was one of the first skiing resorts to be established in the Alps. Way back in 1934 there was already a sort of “sled”, activated by a pulley, which was used for taking skiers back up the mountain, thus avoiding the long climb with sealskins under their skis. In the Summer Bondone is a true outdoor gym just a stone’s throw from the city. The mountain offers a wide range of different activities: from peaceful walks through the basin of the Viote to challenging excursions on the Tre Cime and the Segata prepared path.
