Point of arrival
Val Venegia – Baita Segantini
Summary
A long easy route uphill along the Val Venegia features moderately steep slopes, except for the last stretch that lead to Baita Segantini. During the climb you can enjoy splendid views of the Pale di San Martino range, especially the peaks of Vezzana, Bureloni and Cimon della Pala. Baita Segantini is a natural resting point on this tour. Although the route is easy, it is challenging due to its length.
Description
From the car park, go uphill along the narrow snow-covered road towards Malga Venegia (alpine dairy), and continue slightly uphill along the valley. During the first part of the tour you can notice, on the left, an impressive west face of Monte Mulaz, a true wall of the Dolomites. Quickly pass Località Malga Venegia, at an altitude of 1773m, and continue along the forest road, along the trail that is always well-beaten. Going up the valley, you pass Malga Venegiota (1825m) and continue to Passo Costazza/Baita Segantini. The large walls of Cimon della Pala, Cima Vezzana and the Bureloni stand out, which loom over the valley, one after the other. Continue uphill (to the south) and you get to a hollow free from vegetation at the foot of the last ramp that leads to your destination. You can usually do the last uphill stretch by cutting across a series of bends that characterise the forest road. Then you get to Baita Segantini (Passo Costazza 2180m), with beautiful views of Passo Rolle and the Pale di San Martino range. After a well-deserved break, take the return route back down the same way.
