Sacred art and nature

The Path of the Sanctuaries is a 22-kilometre trail that permits hikers to discover the artistic beauty of the places of worship of the Altopiano di Piné and the Valle di Cembra with the spirit of the pilgrims from the past.

The hike is of intermediate difficulty and is split up into five stages. We advise participants take at least a couple of days to fully appreciate the unique natural landscape and all the opportunities the area has to offer.

The trail begins at the Santuario di Montagnaga, a few metres from the Albergo Alla Corona overlooking the square where the Museum of Trentino Tourism is now located. The trail continues through the hamlet of Bernardi to then reach the Biotope of Laghestèl and then towards Vigo. A stop at the small church dedicated to Saint Joseph is in order here and there is an excellent view of the landscape.

Continuing along the main road, the next stop is at Miola where the church of San Rocco (dedicated to the town's patron saint) is located followed by Baselga di Piné where the ancient rural church of Santa Maria Assunta welcomes the faithful in the picturesque square surrounded by ancient houses. From the hamlet Centrale di Bedollo, hikers enter onto European Path E5 that connects the plateau to the Valle di Cembra. The astonishing Piramidi di Segonzano (Pyramids of Segonzano), an authentic natural rarity, can be seen from the edge of the woods. A short panoramic path that is suitable for both children and adults winds among these very peculiar formations which are the result of constant erosion during the course of time. The ruins of the Castle of Segonzano - immortalized by Albrecht Dürer in his water paintings - are visible as hikers descend to the bottom of the valley towards the Avisio stream among woods and vineyards. Leaving the Castle and returning onto the provincial road towards Stedro, hikers will reach the final stop of the excursion: the Santuario della Madonna dell'Aiuto, one of the area's sacred places, par excellence.
