Albiano: porphyry and chestnuts in the heart of Val di Cembra
Albiano is located 18 km away from Trentino's capital and is one of the leading centres where the famed red porphyry from Albiano is worked, produced and marketed. The area is also very rich in chestnuts.
Albiano is located in the heart of Val di Cembra, at the foot of the northernmost peaks of the Calisio plateau, between the valleys of Rio Ischion and Sega.
Today's industry - which radically altered the economy of the town - developed right after the end of WWI and was based on traditional mining activities. The area between the two churches in piazza San Biagio was paved in 1975 so that it could host a permanent exhibition on porphyry working in the Val di Cembra.
