Avio is one of the largest towns in lower Vallagarina, in the typical pre-Alpine landscape
The beauty of the valleys and surrounding plateaux, and Sabbionara Castle, one of Trentino's most charming fortification complexes, splendidly lit at night and quite visible from the A22 Brenner highway, make Avio an unforgettable place.
Its mild climate that favours the growing of olive trees, of holm-oaks and of vines makes a vacation in this hospitable area all the more inviting. Together with Ala, it is the largest town in lower Vallagarina.
The discovery of ancient Roman findings, including epigraphs and a large amount of coins, bear witness to the ancient trade traffic in this area. Significant is also the finding in 1902 of a barbarian necropolis dating back to the 10th century A.D..
In the splendid historical centre, absolutely worth visiting are the monumental parish church of S. Maria Assunta (17th century) in Baroque style, and the main district with its typically decorated portals that leads all the way to Pieve Vecchia at the mouth of Valle dell´Aviana, known since 1145.
