Summer

With its four localities of Gries, Canazei, Alba and Penia, Canazei is one of the most well-known tourist resorts throughout the Alps, thanks also to its strategic position next to the Dolomite passes of Pordoi, Sella and Fedaia. Located in a beautiful natural basin, Canazei has always remained close to its origins and traditions; great attention is paid to the safeguarding and care of the habits and customs featured by Ladin people, who are used to get together in dancing, theatre and culture groups.
Numerous events are featured in the summer time focussing both on people and sports, including the Dolomites Skyrace - a World Championship event of high-altitude running - and the "Te anter i tobiè", the typical hay-barns open to the public in July to reveal past-time crafts. Towards the end of every summer, Canazei hosts an event called the Gran festa da d´istà, which gathers all the representatives of Ladin people and is so far considered a classic appointment themed around local tradition.

At the base of Marmolada, the Queen of the Dolomites, Canazei offers high-altitude treks, pleasant walks, postcard-like sceneries. The leisure-time facilities are various, such as the Eghes Wellness Center, near the Canazei pool, and the Ice Arena at Alba di Canazei - base for ice-hockey meetings of the local team S.H.C. Fassa Levoni, which is always top-of-the-list of the National A-league Championships.

Directly linked with the Giro del Sellaronda, Canazei is part of the Dolomites Superski circuit, with 4 ski areas within easy access from the village. The Belvedere, the Ciampac, the Col Rodella and the Marmolada are actually included in the wide offer dedicated to ski and snowboard lovers.
Opportunities offered to cross-country skiers are numerous too: ski-trails for any difficulty level and at all altitudes, such as the Ciampac ring at 2,100 meters a.s.l. Canazei is an important Alpine centre renowned for its international sport events, such as the Sellaronda Skimarathon, a night-time downhill ski race.
