Winter
Administrative centre of Val di Fiemme, Cavalese is a winter wonderland for skiing, sports and entertainment
Cavalese is the historical and administrative centre of Val di Fiemme. Stretched over a fluvial-glacial terrace, it slightly slants downwards where the valley opens up. The main facilities (such as the civil hospital) and administrative offices are located there. Cavalese offers its winter guests many opportunities to enjoy sports and family-friendly entertainment, such as downhill skiing in the nearest ski areas with the Fiemme-Obereggen ski pass, Nordic skiing in the lower valley and Lavazè centres, and admiring enchanting views while snow-shoe walking on the numerous peaceful tracks available. Cavalese features the finish line for the famous walk called Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa, which takes place every year on the last Sunday of January. Hockey is very popular at the Ice Arena (founded in 1956, Hockey Club Fiemme features a long line of successful achievements). Sport events often come with music events (Fiemme Ski Jazz) and entertainment.
Among places to visit, don't miss the Centro di Arte Contemporanea (Contemporary Art Centre) located in Cavalese, and the ancient Bishop's Palace which is decorated with splendid frescoes and hosts the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme.
Cavalese is definitely family-friendly, for it offers numerous activities planned for kids in special play areas and snow playgrounds where they can learn to ski or have fun - and at special family prices.
