Archaeology and small art treasures in Cloz, surrounded by apple tree orchards
Located at the foot of mount Òzol to the right of Novella, Cloz is surrounded by neat fruit orchards and woods. The residential area is divided in two districts, S. Maria or "Outer" Cloz and S. Stefano or "Inner" Cloz - Cloz di Fuori and Cloz di Dentro. The S. Stefano parish church and the Town Hall are located between these two districts.
Cloz is an age-old village. The numerous findings discovered throughout the last century have proved the relevance of its remote past in the context of the rich archaeological area of the Val di Non valley. A pre-historical castellar dating back to the Bronze Age was found on the Dosso della Croce hillock.
Architectonic treasures to be seen in Cloz are the typical triangular shutters, the Renaissance style double lancet windows, and the large stoves for bread-baking that decorate the old houses. There are some note-worthy frescoes in Casa Cisi and Casa Mola, and perched on a wood-covered hill near the village, the remains of Castel Fava, Cloz's ancient castle dating back to the 12th century.
A typical handcraft activity carried out in Cloz is the traditional manufacturing of wrought copper for the creation of tools and precious decorative objects.
Cloz is one of the three municipalities that supported the establishment of the fluvial park "Parco Fluviale Novella".
Near the hamlet of Cloz, on the hill of Sommo Alto there is Castel Sant'Anna, a castle built in 1334. Nowadays the building is a country mansion.
