Discovering Frassilongo, on the trace of the Mocheni people
Frassilongo is the first town of the Valle dei Mocheni that visitors find after taking the Sistra Fersina provincial road. The vast majority of its population is Mòcheno - that is of Germanic origin and - and speaks Mocheno, a language coming from ancient German. The town boasts a traditional layout featuring Alpine farmhouses (masi) built on wide, sunny meadows.
The municipality includes Roveda/Oachlait, where the Istituto Cultural Mocheno (Mocheno Curlutral Institute) has refurbished an age-old mill powered by the Rio Rigolor stream - now open to visitors - and the upper outlaying municipal district of Kamaovrunt, with its picturesque location and architecture. The town, its outlying municipal districts and especially Kamauz - with its two hotels - offer guests a wide array of possibilities for a relaxing stay, surrounded by breathtaking views and true Mocheno culture.
Tourists are invited to visit the recently refurbished 16th Century town Church, which hosts statues of the Blessed Virgin and Saint Ulrich - patron saint of the town - as well as a fresco depicting Saint Christopher, who used to protect both travellers and the town from the flooding of the River Fersina.
