Peio: renowned for its healthy curative waters springing high up in the mountains

Peio is located at the foot of the highest mountain range of the Trentino region, in the heart of the National Park of the Stelvio. With peaks reaching 3700 m, such as the Cevedale and the Vioz, the Valle di Peio provides tourists with an endless array of walks and hikes featuring any difficulty level. For example, the "giro dei laghi" of Cevedale is an easy walk with wonderful views taking guests from one lake to the next: Lungo, Pian Palù, Marmotte, Covel and Careser, up to 2000 m at Malga Mare.

Water, lakes and waterfalls are scattered throughout the area, which is safeguarded by both the Park and by locals, who have established the Ecomuseo della Val di Peio. This small Alpine world is described with an ethnographic, environmental and historical route illustrating traditions and age-old jobs. Casa Grazioli bears witness to the evolution of country farmhouses over the past few centuries. Tourists are also invited to visit the local Museo della Guerra (War Museum).

Already renowned back in the 17th century, Peio waters are used in the spa located at 1390 m above sea level to heal breathing, circulatory, rheumatic and skin diseases. The state-of-the-art, fully equipped spa includes a wellness centre with swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi, phlebologic course, steam room, aromatherapy pool, UVA sun lamp and massages.

Winter

In Peio, visitors enjoy peaceful skiing holidays surrounded by the beauty of the Stelvio

Located in a small valley hidden within the Ortles-Cevedale - the heart of the Stelvio National Park - Peio is surrounded by some of the highest peaks of Trentino: Cevedale (3764 m.), Palon de la Mare (3703 m.), Vioz (3644 m.) and San Matteo (3684 m.). Here visitors enjoy an array of ski-runs with different difficulty levels. Never overcrowded, the ski-runs are provided with both ski schools and expert skiing teachers for children.
This family-friendly resort also provides other alternatives for tourists, such as snowshoe walks both by day and by night towards various Alpine summer pastures. The skiing districts of Marilleva-Folgarida are just a few minutes' drive away, and visitors can also reach the Passo del Tonale and Presena passes with a half hour drive.
Iron used to be quarried from the mountains of the area. The healthy, prized waters of Fonti di Peio springs are used in its spa - which is open in the winter as well - to treat breathing, circulatory, rheumatic and skin diseases, as well as to provide beauty treatments. The town's wellness centre and pool - just like its spa - are open until late so that guests may enjoy a beneficial sauna or massage after a day spent hiking or skiing.
The local museum dedicated to the Great War is also worth a visit.
