Pelugo

Summer

An ancient town for a holiday in communion with nature

From the Rendena, the town is located at the final part of the gorge of the Valle di Borzago, leading to the Glaciers of Lares and Carè Alto and can be an exhilarating destination for hikers. The territory boasts a unique environment and is ideally suited to sports and outdoor activities, such as excursions and mountain biking.

Pelugo is dominated by the prehistoric hillfort of S. Zeno. The Arena houses - named in 1364 - were apparently destroyed by a flood and are found on the level ground located in the South East. The town was rebuilt after the fire of 4 March 1922 and today enjoys the industrious wellbeing seen in the Rendena area. Special mention must be made of the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate which contains nice frescoes by Cristoforo Baschenis - member of a famous family of itinerant painters from Bergamo - dating back to the ‘400.

Traditional activities in the area include the production of timber and silk, wrought iron (forges on the banks of the Bedù) and walnut oil pressing.
