Dolomitic Pale di San Martino di Castrozza: an historic tourist resort
San Martino di Castrozza is an historic tourist resort renowned since the 19th century, after it started attracting British and German alpinists. On their arrival visitors are welcomed by the spectacular view of thick woods and rocky pinnacles of the Pale, which turn pink at sunset. The town is located inside the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino nature reserve, an area of rare beauty which has been protected for 30 years now. Its picturesque, elegant yet simple atmosphere has inspired poets and musicians, like Arthur Schnitzler and Richard Strauss.
Summer at San Martino features numerous events and opportunities for leisure time, besides many facilities and amenities for sports and recreational activities addressed to kids as well as grown-ups. San Martino is the ideal destination for alpinists and for high-elevation excursions, but also for people looking for a sophisticated mountain resort. The range of accommodation is very wide and of excellent quality.
Opportunities for active tourism are endless: trekking, mountain-biking, climbing and free-climbing. The Dolomite landscape provides an ideal context to find a balance between well-being of the body and well-being of the mind.
