Storo

Summer

Hard-working and quiet area where the Trentino region meets the Brescia township

Where Valle del Chiese opens up into a plain, before the river flows into Lake Idro in the South-Western corner of Trentino, that very plain is surrounded by four villages: Storo, with its hamlets of Darzo, Lodrone and Riccomassimo.
Storo is an important cross-ways for Valle di Ledro and the basin of the upper Garda, Lombardy and Val Rendena areas.
The age-old town districts are marked by traditional elements such as wall paintings, courtyards and galleries, picturesque intersecting paved roads, hallways, squares with granite fountains. The church of San Floriano (1199) featuring an ancient organ and precious paintings by Romanino, is worth visiting, as well as the 15th Century church of San Lorenzo, frescoed by the Baschenis. Find Nearby the Fontana Bianca and the Fontana Santa falls.
Darzo features a sport centre with football pitches, tennis and bowling courts. It is possible to take beautiful hiking tours following evocative paths and crossing the conifer woods of the Dos Rotond and reaching the Alpine summer pastures of Plaz, Spina, Valdoneda, Casina Vecia, and Monte Tonolo.
Lodrone still keeps the Middle-Aged flavour of the life at the times of the Lodron Counts, who used to inhabiti and dominate this valley for centuries. Palazzo Caffaro, with the adjoining Conventino (small convent) alongside the Caffaro stream, and Palazzo Bavaria, in the countryside, are proof of those times. Riccomassimo is a small group of houses, surrounded by the silence of Trentino's border.
Storo nowadays is well-known for its yellow flour, which is manufactured from the local Valle del Chiese corn. Its grains get milled very slowly, so that flour may hold both nutritional poperties and aroma, and guarantee the chance to taste a true mountain polenta.
