Summer

Themed walks, flavour of alpine summer pastures and scent of history

Vigolo Vattaro (725 m above sea level) is the largest town in the Vigolana plateau and is located just a few kilometres away from Trento and Lake Caldonazzo. Its origins hark back to the Bronze Age and are proved by the Via Claudia Augusta - a Roman road built to connect the Valsugana with the Valle dell'Adige valley. The Castle of Vigolo was erected during the Renaissance in a strategic position over the pass between Vigolana and Marzola, in order to defend the town.
The beauty of the structure of the town - unfolding amongst tiny alleyways with picturesque views - and of its buildings has remained the same throughout the years. Stone portals, balconies and climbing vines breathe life and colour into each house, while preserving the architecture of the past and adjusting it to a modern context.
Accommodation in town is offered through private apartments, bed and breakfasts, home-stays and farmhouses. Special mention goes to locally manufactured honeys, wines, chestnuts and cheese.
Evocative walks take visitors to the foot of the Mazola, as well as to the alpine summer pastures of Vigolana and along themed trails (nordic walking, mountain-bike and horseback riding). There is a lot of walking to be had on Vigolana's 60 km.
Santa Madre Paolina's birth house - who immigrated to Brazil and was canonised by Pope John Paul II - is an important religious landmark in the area.
