Trentino is a land of sports and sportspeople, both in summer and winter. It is a meeting place for great champions, famous teams and sports fans.
In the summer months, Trentino is home to numerous football teams who come here for the clean air and green meadows to train and to pump new energy into their legs in view of the upcoming championship season. Among these, Inter, Bayern Monaco, Napoli and Fiorentina stand out. Furthermore, two important federations train in Trentino and namely the main men's basketball and volleyball national teams, in Folgaria and Cavalese respectively.
As for the world of cycling, there are events galore, such as the Giro d'Italia that has stages in Trentino every year. But this famous race to win the coveted pink jersey is not the only cycling event in Trentino. In 2013, the province will also be the setting for the first 2 stages of the Tour de Pologne, as well as for the traditional Giro del Trentino, at its 37th edition in 2013, for the Leggendaria Charly Gaul race and for Trofeo Melinda. For MTB, we move to Val di Sole where, starting from the 2008 World Championships, a few stages of the MTB World CUP are hosted every year.
Lake Garda is the ideal location for water sports events of international prestige: in 2013, for example, it will host the Optimist World Championship. Trentino also hosts athletics meetings, above all the Palio della Quercia, sport-climbing events such as the Rock Master, numerous marathons such as the International Lake Garda Marathon, in addition to the Fisherman's Friend StrongmanRun, "the toughest race of all time".
These, as well as many others, are the events to look out for in the summertime, ranging from road cycling to sports climbing, from rafting to MTB, etc...
In winter, Alpine skiing and Nordic skiing are the prime sports. Great champions are a constant presence in Trentino, both for the racing events they take part in and for their training activity. Just consider the Italian and Norwegian national teams' training bases in Trentino and the return of the 3Tre in Madonna di Campiglio, a historic stage of the Alpine Ski World Cup.
As for Nordic skiing, the Cermis slope hosts the spectacular Tour de Ski ascent, and in 2013 Val di Fiemme will also host the Nordic World Ski Championships.
The FISG (Italian Ice Sports Federation) has a long-standing partnership with Trentino as its skaters have been training for years in the ice stadium in Piné.
A unique event to look out for is Wrooom - an international meeting with the Ferrari and Ducati pilots that turn Madonna di Campiglio red for an entire week with the racing team's colours.
These are only the major events, but numerous other winter sports events take place in Trentino, from alpine skiing to Nordic skiing, from snowboarding to ice-skating, from ice-climbing to ski touring, etc...
For twelve months a year, our mountains, lakes and state-of-the-art facilities host highly acclaimed events, teams and athletes but tourists can also enjoy the same benefits by practising these sports at various levels.
