Just why should you choose to spend an hour or a few days of your holiday in a refuge?

There are thousands of good reasons for making the climb: to escape the chaos and fast pace of city life, gaze on unspoilt natural views, and savour authentic flavours, or even just to enjoy the family atmosphere. These reasons alone are enough, and yet there are a million more other delights waiting for you.
The reality of a refuge experience offers more: make a point of rising early to catch the dawn wrapping itself around the mountain peaks like a ribbon; stop to have a meal, linger until sunset and watch the gentle transition of day turning into night. Glory in a mountain storm, the magnificent noise and dazzling lights, which magically clears revealing the sun, bringing purifying fresh air in its wake. Anyone of these moments makes a refuge visit worthwhile!
And there is more to discover: talk to the refuge manager, get to know him for what he truly is, a real "Master of the mountain", the custodian of a thousand experiences. Ask him to tell you stories of times past, listen to his philosophy of life that manages to transform the ordinary into something special. Let him explain that although, admittedly, in the past he had, several times, tried to leave this almost untameable place, time after time, every spring, the mountain would pull him back to his retreat, so much so that now he feels like he's part of the rock.
And when with regret you eventually have to return back down to the valley below, you will do so enriched by your experiences, and comforted by the knowledge that everybody else also has to leave; only the refuge manager remains to survey his domain.
Finally, once you have reached the bottom, you'll realise that you're hooked. You'll find that you are raring to discover another refuge rich in history, eager to meet another "Master of the mountain”, and ready to take home with you a new unforgettable memory!
